Scrappy Queen Size Log Cabin Quilt and a few more finishes

I just love log cabin quilts! The blocks are super easy to make and when it comes to patterns there are many possibilities.
If you read my previous post, you know I'm in for a scrappy year, which means using up bits and pieces and NOT buy fabrics just for fun! My dear childhood friend Johnny is the 'fabric police' now, so I need an approval from him each time I need to buy fabrics - LOL

I can't believe all the greens I have hoarded since 2006 when I started quilting! I don't know why, but I have always believed I don't like green... Does it look like that?! :)
When I got the idea to make a log cabin quilt using greens, the first 'picture' came from the little farm where I grew up. The farm is just next to marshland and it is surrounded by forest - a perfect playground for a little child!

The four seasons at the farm;
winter: the cream tone-on-tone; the snow - the red square; the fireplace
spring and autumn: the greens
summer: the yellow - the sun

To make it a queen size, I need another border all around. I have decided on a flying geese border, since we often spotted them.

I had some Civil War fabric scraps and here's a couple of small table toppers.
Not the perfect weather for photos today; cloudy, so the photos came out a bit dark.
For this one I had enough for the border...

... but not for this one.... I don't think I have anything that fits...

A little orphan block.... I have yet to decide on this one... A mini pillow, mug rug, candle mat.... I don't know....
What I know is that I don't have enough of these fabrics to continue to make it one row bigger....

Some finishes

Set of 6 coasters - kiwi

Set of 4 coasters - poppies

The coasters are for sale in my Etsy shop.

WIP's right now:
- hem 6 coasters
- quilt 4 placemats

It needs to be done, but I'm not sure about the priority list - LOL.

More scrappy days... Disappearing pinwheel blocks and some finishes

Where do the days go?! I can't believe we are almost halfway into February already! We are still into the hottest of the hot season and I can't wait for cooler days, but that won't happen before middle or end March. I'm soooo longing for cooler days and the hiking season! :)

Well, I've been busy sewing. If you read my previous post, you know I was trying something new; disappearing pinwheel blocks. I love this block! There are so many possibilities. Since I'm in for a 'scrappy year' and currently on SSD (Strict Stash Diet / Fabric Diet), I decided to go for even more scrappy blocks by using up bits and pieces. Some of the fabrics I have used are leftovers from this quilt I made for my dear childhood friend Johnny's 50th birthday a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure about the backing... I don't have anything that is big enough and nothing really fit for a scrappy backing either... think I will have to keep an eye open for fabric sales!  Yes, I know! I'm not allowed to buy 'unnecessary' fabrics (SSD!), but I am allowed when I don't have anything that fits! Right?! :)

Some finishes.
I bought these fabrics almost two years ago and first now I finally got ideas what to make. I think it is said something like don't cut fabrics before it calls to you ... or something like that? Anyone knows?
I love these fabrics! They are sooo vernal... you can almost smell the spring, can't you?! :)
The fabrics are from the 'Spring Spectacular'  by Fabri-Quilt

Set of 4 coasters

A mug rug for a friend in Norway

A table topper

A pair of placemats

Another pair of placemats

I have a few more items where I have used 'Spring Spectacular', but I'm not happy with the photos. Later!

A trivet / hot pad

A pair of pot holders

I have enjoyed making these items and they are listed in my Etsy shop.

Over the last days I have been working on another scrappy quilt, but that will be a secret until my next post! :)
