Last Catch Up on RSC Monthly blocks 2025 / Potholders to a Friend

As the title says; these are the last RSC blocks for 2025

'Coffee with Dad'
I love these blocks! They are so fun and fast to make

7 brown blocks
As you can see, two of them have more red than brown.

8 black blocks
Corrected to 7 blocks
Hm... How did that happen? Do you see it? Cup #3 first row and #1 second row are the same! I made one only! Messed up when I took the photos.

I'm a bit lost when it comes to it. How do I explain that? I have an idea how to assemble the blocks. With that idea, I don't think I can make all blocks beforehand. When the time comes, I will lay out the blocks I have already made, see what other colors fit in and make them.

15 quarter circle blocks - purple / aqua / turquoise / brown

Half circles

1 aqua / turquoise
3 brown / teal

More of these blocks. I've lost count; a lot of 2.5" squares used up. There are 20 in each block. These blocks are going together with the 36-patches I've made earlier

8 brown blocks

6 black blocks

Hollow 9-patches

2 Light blue blocks

4 Brown blocks

1 Black block

Do you have any plans for RSC 2026?
It's so easy getting carried away making blocks, I have lost track of what I have made! I need to put all those blocks together, that would be my main goal for 2026. For RSC, maybe only one block, I'm thinking of the Friendship block. Still some months to go to decide.

These are the potholders I made for a DF in Norway

I couldn't post photos earlier because he wanted them to be a surprise. The package is now delivered.

HAPPY QUILTING!

Using up bits and pieces, layer cakes and the PSQ craze

Welcome April!
Springtime many places on the globe and here it means cooler days. We can feel it already, which is just so wonderful!

What have I been up to since my previous post? Not much really.... I've been using up fabrics from the 'Blooming spring' by Joanne Porter for Wilmington prints.

I had some border fabric left and made a set of 4 placemats

... and two trivets / hot pads. Love to use up bits and pieces.

Some weeks ago I cut the fabrics for this table runner... Yesterday I added the pieces together, quilted and now it's ready to be hemmed.

Back in January I pulled out two layer cakes from the shelf that had been sitting there forever... almost! What has happened since then? Nothing! Not until this morning when I decided to cut each 10 inch square into four 5 inch squares for a twin quilt.

 'Aviary' by 3 Sisters
and 'Beach House' by Blackbird Designs

I think these two layer cakes blend well together. I'm going to 'mix & match' the fabrics squares and I think it should be enough for a twin quilt - I have to calculate on that. (The photo doesn't do justice to the colors of the fabrics, it was too dark in the room so I had to use the flash).

What's your experience with layer cakes?
Before I started cutting the 10 inch squares, I measured properly to verify they are exact 10 inches square. Well, they are NOT! On almost every square - those I have cut - they measured 9 7/8 or 9 3/4 inches! I figured out this is not going to work, so I decided to cut them all into 4 7/8 inches squares. By doing so at least I know the squares are squares - lol - and I won't have any surprises when adding them together! And even better; I cut off that terrible pinking edge! I'm glad I'm not allergic to all that cotton dust that comes with it!

...And the craze is on again!
900 2 inch charms ready to be shipped to the US, Canada and UK.
200 2 inch newbie gifts are shipped to the US, Canada and New Zealand.
A big THANK YOU  to Mary over at The Curious Quilter who is doing a fabulous job as well as keeping us out of trouble! :)

Well, the coffee break is over and I have to get going with the second layer cake!

A wonderful weekend to you all!
Happy Quilting!

More scrappy days... Disappearing pinwheel blocks and some finishes

Where do the days go?! I can't believe we are almost halfway into February already! We are still into the hottest of the hot season and I can't wait for cooler days, but that won't happen before middle or end March. I'm soooo longing for cooler days and the hiking season! :)

Well, I've been busy sewing. If you read my previous post, you know I was trying something new; disappearing pinwheel blocks. I love this block! There are so many possibilities. Since I'm in for a 'scrappy year' and currently on SSD (Strict Stash Diet / Fabric Diet), I decided to go for even more scrappy blocks by using up bits and pieces. Some of the fabrics I have used are leftovers from this quilt I made for my dear childhood friend Johnny's 50th birthday a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure about the backing... I don't have anything that is big enough and nothing really fit for a scrappy backing either... think I will have to keep an eye open for fabric sales!  Yes, I know! I'm not allowed to buy 'unnecessary' fabrics (SSD!), but I am allowed when I don't have anything that fits! Right?! :)

Some finishes.
I bought these fabrics almost two years ago and first now I finally got ideas what to make. I think it is said something like don't cut fabrics before it calls to you ... or something like that? Anyone knows?
I love these fabrics! They are sooo vernal... you can almost smell the spring, can't you?! :)
The fabrics are from the 'Spring Spectacular'  by Fabri-Quilt.

Set of 4 coasters

A mug rug for a friend in Norway

A table topper

A pair of placemats

Another pair of placemats

I have a few more items where I have used 'Spring Spectacular', but I'm not happy with the photos. Later!

A trivet / hot pad

A pair of pot holders

I have enjoyed making these items and they are listed in my Etsy shop.

Over the last days I have been working on another scrappy quilt, but that will be a secret until my next post! :)

Some of the items for the Culture / Christmas Fair in Norway

As you know from my previous post, I'm busy making items for the Fair that takes place in Norway at the end of November. Today I finally got around to take some photos of some of the items I have made over the last weeks. I am very strict on myself; I want to use up as much of my stash as possible and I don't allow myself to buy new fabric 'just for fun' - LOL! So far I have done rather well, but I must confess - YES - I have bought a few yards, which was needed or else I had not been able to finish some items.

For this table runner I have used fabrics I bought a couple of years back. It looked beautiful, but when I received the fabrics, I didn't like them that much after all. Earlier this year I even tried to sell it... didn't sell either, so here's what came out of the fabrics...

Love the village scenery... :)

Couldn't help it! Some DM fabrics that turned into placemats

Mug rugs...

.... and more mug rugs

...two more... :)

Some autumn / harvest pot-holders...

Christmas pot-holders

Egg cosy

Penguin coasters

... and two more...

...four more...

Some of the photos didn't turn out good enough, so I'll have to redo them. I have more items done and today I'm working on a table mat and a table runner. I also have several items where the only job left is to hand sew the binding.

A few finishes

I have been so busy with all those charms (cutting and shipping) for the April swap as well as doing some house works, so I haven't had much time for quilting - I mean; bigger projects.
I have made a few small projects though;
a pair of pot holders. I still have fabrics left from Debbie Mumm's 'Rustic Retreat' and I thought those cute houses will be nice for smaller projects.

I'm working on a table runner using chocolate prints, but ran out of coordinating fabric, which I'm expecting any day now... While waiting, I made a pair of mug rugs, using leftover fabrics.

I don't do much stitchery, which is something I love to do. A friend's birthday is approaching, she's an avid garderner, so I thought this little stitchery will do as a birthday gift.

Yesterday afternoon I pulled out some fabric I purchased earlier this year. (Forgot to take photos).
When I purchased the fabric, I had in mind to make a table topper / runner. After some 'deep-thinking' I ended up making four placemat and today I'm going to finish the table runner top...
