Finished UFO's and New Project

It's not often I have two posts in one week, but I'm excited to share some (quilting) news with you!

First, I have some finished UFO's!
The Scrappy Christmas Quilt was finished in April, but never got around taking photos

I've used red, green, grey, white and gold scraps (I almost ran out of greens!)

For the back I've chosen a beautiful poinsettia fabric

The stocking kit was given to me a couple of years ago (I never buy kits). This UFO was also one of the 'laying on the bench next to the table'.

I rarely make stockings, so it took me an unpick to get the lining inside and not outside! lol

This photo shows what was meant to be the back of the stockings.  Aren't these too cute to be hidden on the back?! Instead of two, I made four!

Those of you who read my blog regularly, know I love making scrappy quilts. I'm a member of the Quiltsy Team on Etsy. The team has monthly challenges and for July/August: Scraps! Make anything from table runner to twin size quilt.

I have cut squares from leftover fabrics for years, separated Christmas from all other themes.

Big shoe box full of 2.5' squares!
Not so much sorted on colors,

that's what I did last night; sorted on colors! Phew! Here are only a few.

Sorted on colors, and one of each. I'm thinking a lap quilt, but it won't be a unique one (meaning: no duplicates!). I have several of most fabric, it has to be duplicates.
Fun seeing some of these fabrics again, and some I can't even remember what I made. So this is what will keep my fingers warm the coming days.

Weekend Sewing and Updated UFO / WIP Lists

Happy Wednesday!
(I started writing this post Monday, some paragraphs are updated)
After working hard on WIP's and actually finish some of them  (previous post), it took me a day or so to decide what's next.

I decided to work on the tea cozies. They are quilted and ready for binding.

Update: 2 tea cozies are done, just have to fix the loop on each.

I've this one left to do. Insulated tea cozies are a bit tedious to make, especially to machine sew the binding through four layers cotton batting, 2 layers insul bright + the front and lining. For this, I use needle #18/110, slow, and lots of P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E, and COFFEE!!! lol

While hunting for the binding fabric, I pulled out a small piece of poinsettia fabric, just enough to make a tea cozy in a different design. This one is done, I have to bias cut binding for the small teapot mat. I think this tea cozy turned out really cute.

Well, my to-do list consists of WIP's already on the table and chair. What I didn't count, are the WIP's on the bench next to the table! HA! Guess what I found there?!

40 arcs for a Double Wedding Ring quilt
I'm a member of the Quiltsy Team on Etsy and one of the challenges this year is to make something we've always wanted to do but never made before. For me, that's a DWR quilt! I'm making it in scrappy batik.

48 New York Beauty blocks
These were put aside when I decided to work on UFO's.

Christmas Stocking Kit
I never buy kits. This kit is a gift from a quilter in the US.

Update: Working on these. Stockings, batting and the back are cut. Have to go hunting in my Christmas stash for lining fabric.

During lockdown (beginning March 10, 2021) as well as recovering from a surgery, I couldn't move much around. To stay sane, I did counted cross stitching. I used to do it some years ago and really enjoyed it. I made these ornaments more than 10 years ago. For the 'Coffee Menu', I had one color missing and due to the lockdown I couldn't go into the city getting it. Eventually the lockdown was lifted, I got the floss, and no more progress.

Seriously, I should work on this one too, because I love it!

The 'What's-on-the-Table' list has shrunk considerably, from this, to this:

- 3 Tea Cozies - quilted
- PSQ blocks 36 patches - ongoing project - no new blocks
- Pineapple Quilt (UFO) - make a pieced backing - not done

NEW to the list:
- Double Wedding Ring quilt (2021) - arcs done
- NYB - 48 blocks done (2021) - layout
- 2 Christmas Stockings (kit / UFO)
- 'Coffee Menu' Cross Stitching

Updated APQ UFO list:

#1 - Blue & White Irish Chain
#2 - Black/White Poppies Wall Haning - FEBRUARY
- #3 - Got the Blues
#4 Christmas Lap Quilt - APRIL - DONE!
#5 - Pineapple Quilt - JUNE
#6 - Christmas Stockings Kit
#7 - Log Cabin Blocks (Nancy Halvorsen) - JANUARY - DONE!
#8 - Scrappy Quilt / Migration to Africa - DONE!
#9 - PS Quilt - MAY - DONE!
#10 - Basket Quilt
#11 - Kitchen WH / Vegetables - MARCH
#12 - PSQ Blocks -JULY - DONE!
#13 - Crumb Quilt
#14 - Scrappy Flannel Quilt
#15 - Scrappy 4' Squares

5 big quilts finished in 6 months. Not that bad, eh?!

HAPPY QUILTING!

While waiting for fabric...

... to finish some summer table runners and toppers,
I'm working on Christmas items.

Yep, another Advent Calendar!
After the photos were taken, I added all the pockets, sleeve and binding on one calendar (I have three in all).

Update: They are done!

The calendar will be available in our shop in a couple of days, need to take a few more photos.

Remember the Christmas Stockings from my previous post?

I spent the entire last weekend to finish them all! It took some brain work to get the lining/toes the right way, but when I got the hang to it, they were done in a jiffy, almost...! :) These will be re-listed in our shop soon.

I received the white batting for the Patriotic Table Toppers , but the company sent me the medium thick instead of the thinnest batting. I contacted them, it is sorted out and my new order is on the way, hopefully with the right batting this time!
The fabric I'm waiting for was shipped from the warehouse middle April, for so to take an extra journey; Jamaica US, Miami, Jamaica and finally left JFK 3 weeks after it was shipped from the seller's warehouse! SIGH!
Update: Finally received the fabric! I had to laugh when I saw the package was 'missent to the Bahamas'!

In between, when I need a short break from making items for our shop, I go scrappy!

I've made three new scrappy star blocks

I don't remember when I started making the scrappy log cabin blocks. I have lost count of how many I have, but I believe it is close enough to a lap quilt.

Each block measures 8 inches (sewn into quilt)

Nasty weather today; rain, wind, and cold. 'Winter' is here.... again! Meteo predicts +15C / 59F on the plateau tonight, time for wool blankets!

Going Patriotic and Christmas

To all Norwegians worldwide:

HAPPY MAY 17TH!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/233095321/norwegian-flag-mug-rug-quilted-red-white

The last two weeks have been very busy. I've been out of the house almost every day, running errands here and there and only had time for sewing in the late afternoons / evenings.

The Patriotic Mug Rugs in our shop sold out and I made a few new. For the back, I chose a red fabric with tiny flowers instead of the mottled flag red I've used earlier.

I thought I was done with Patriotic quilts for awhile, but after searching the net for new ideas, I found this block worth trying. Norway's National Day, May 17th is today and July 4th in the US is approaching. These would be great table toppers on these special days.

I prefer to use white cotton batting on white fabric. I ran out of white and more is on the way. I should get it by next week (she said hopefully!).

I've been working on some Advent Calendars as well. Even if these are easy to make, it takes its time.

I'm taking a few days break from Advent Calendars and this is what I'm currently working on

Yep! Christmas stockings! Aren't these cute? I cut the panels last year, but figured out it was too near up to Christmas to get them shipped abroad. Since I took the photo yesterday, I've quilted all the backings (12 in all) and almost halfway quilting the fronts. These are really cute and would put a smile to everyone's face.
Soon to be listed at RedNeedleQuilts

I bought some meters satin ribbons (sold per meter) the other day and got the clever idea to reuse empty Superior Threads cones for the purpose.

QQQ UFO Challenge 2016

How often does life come in the way? .... I'm asking myself this question today - February 2, 2016.
Why, you may ask? Because I intended to be a better blogger this year, but it is already February and I have done only one blog post at the beginning of the year!
The plan was to do a blog post last weekend. For me, to make plans is a waste; plans always fail and 'of course' the plan to blog last weekend failed too! Not my fault this time; I-net connection was off for 6 days! One week without access to I-net or access to my Etsy shop, is that acceptable?! NO! Fortunate the local Post Office has I-net access and I was able to check in a couple of times during the week.

Well, that's history now! :)
Today I'm going to show you my UFO's. Yep, we all have UFO's, don't we?! :)
Quilts Quilts Quilts! Etsy team is hosting the UFO Challenge 2016 and deadline for the entries was January 31, 2016. You can see the entries here. I've added only a few of my UFO's and hope to finish them all before end of July 2016 (deadline).

This is my favorite UFO; Postage Stamp Quilt.
I have used 2.5 inch charms from swaps only. The quilt is ready to be quilted, hope to get the batting this week.

Heaps with HST (Half Square Triangles). It should be enough for two small baby quilts.
For this one, I have to buy backing, don't have anything suitable.

Flannel baby quilt. I've had these fabrics F-O-R-E-V-E-R! Time to make something out of them. Have everything that is needed.

Another heap with squares. The idea is a lap quilt, but time will show what comes out of these fabrics.

This butterflies bag has been sitting here another year! I intended to finish is last year, but it's still the same! :)

The same with this one; ZERO PROGRESS! The 'Izzat Biryani' is a rice bag from Pakistan. These bags are strong and perfect for reusing together with old jeans for grocery shopping bags.

...and a few other UFO's not listed for the challenge...

An Advent Calendar that needs binding. Don't have anything that fits...

Boring place mats! Not sure I like them... I don't have binding for these either...

Two Christmas stockings, I'm turning them into two small wall hangings.
I think I have fabrics for the red one, but not sure about the other one....

I have a few more UFO's, but not sure I'm going to do anything to them in near future.

A finished UFO and other small projects

In between sewing for the Culture / Craft Fair in Norway, a few hikes, housework, gardening etc, I squeezed in time to finish a UFO. It was almost done earlier this year and what was left to do was hand-stitching the binding and outline the details on the panel blocks. I spent some days at a dear friend's place at the coast for about one week and between chatting and eating - :) - I managed to get a lot done - almost done!

I have used fabrics from 'Love is' collection by Nancy Halvorsen together with white tone-on-tone.
To make the squares fit the panel blocks, they had to be cut as rectangles.

I had fun making some coasters and here are a couple for chocolate lovers! :)

A Christmas stocking, where most details are outlined.

I love making mug rugs and here's Santa skating! :)

I got obsessed using up some black & white scraps, which turned out to be 12 mug rugs!

Set of 4 floral coasters

A table runner

... and 2 matching place mats

More mug rugs - for Valentine's Day?!

Another set of two...

...the last two...

These items are for sale in my Etsy shop.

I've loved making these small items, especially since I haven't felt for making quilts. I still have two UFO's - queen size quilts - that has to be done. One is ready to be quilted and the other one needs backing.
We had a lovely Christmas Eve together with our friends. These days are lazy days and no sewing at all... I use the dining table for sewing and every Christmas I take a break from sewing... I must confess today I missed it, but to comfort myself I had a look at some of my stash and discovered some flannels I had forgotten... :-0 The idea now is to make a baby quilt - or two - using the flannels in blue and pink.
