Chicken Family and another award

I've mentioned in a previous post I was waiting for 2 parcels from the US, both of them consisting of fabrics to finish 'Alouette's Quilt'. I read somewhere parcels from the US may take as long as up to 12 weeks international due to customs. I ordered the fabrics almost at the same day; one parcel arrived after 6 weeks - the other one after 7 weeks! Needless to say I was desperate, because I feared the parcels had gone astray. I got the second parcel on Saturday and intended to work on the quilt during the weekend. The only thing I did was to measure the backing and then I felt puffed. I have to add two pieces for the backing, perhaps I'll do it today - I don't think I feel for any garden work today...

Instead of finishing the quilt as I intended, I made the chicken family! Easter and all - I needed some decoration. Aren't they cute?! The pattern is from talented Stella Whittingham - visit her blog here. She has some free patterns too.

Look who's on the top right side corner of the photo?! I wonder what he was thinking when he saw the chickens..... :))

Santa & the Quilted Goose

I don't know why, but Santa came early this year... I must have been an extremely good girl?! He even brought me a fat goose! :)

Well, this is a pattern designed by Judy Golder (Australia), which I bought earlier this year. Christmas is soon approaching and I love to either make a Santa or buy one - if I find something interesting. (I'm quite sure I'll buy one too! Hehehe!) It was easy to make him, and the greatest of all is that I used from my stash; didn't buy any flannel or other materials at all! :) Santa's clothes are made of flannel as well as his hands. The "boots" are made of black linen. The star on his hat and the beard (wool) were included with the pattern. The goose is quilted. Santa is 52 cm / 20 inch tall.

Look what I found...

I have never been 100% satisfied with my "cave" (computer/sewing room), and after hubby pestered me with suggestions I finally decided to move my beloved bookshelf into the bedroom. The computer corner needed more "air", and in the end I got the idea to re-do that corner by adding half the bookshelf (yes, it consisted of two parts) to the left side of the desk where I placed all those "things" that belong to a computer. I even got space for my quilting books- and magazines! :-) I placed the upper part of the bookshelf in the bed room. Actually it looks cozier there too with some books! :-) Sadly I had to put some of the books into the wardrobe, but hopefully I'll buy another bookshelf soon... Some years ago I made two dolls that are displayed on the bookshelf. Last year I made the doll/angel (left) after a pattern in "Handmade". And then is my beloved teddy bear "Bamse" - poor thing - I still haven't got around making him clothes - as you can see!

Isn't it fun what pops up when not looking for it?! When emptying the bookshelf I discovered a small box with letters, and on the bottom of the box I found this beautiful small quilt made by my dear friend Kari in 2007!!! I had completely forgotten about it! Shame on me! The quilt is made from a photo she took during her visit to Mauritius some years earlier. The technique is called faux chenille. Now it is out of the box and hanging on the notice board in front of me! :-)



...And I found this one! It's a small DMC cross-stitch booklet! On the front it is printed "Bibliothèque DMC - Point de Marque - 3me Serie". I got it from MIL some years ago, and misplaced it - of course! I have no idea how old it is. The back cover is missing, perhaps it had shown which year it was printed... In addition to letters in different sizes, it has other patterns like; borders, flowers, people and even a horse! Oh, how I'd like to do cross-stitching again.....
