Baby quilt progressing...

I've been working on the baby quilt today; pinned the three layers together. I consider tying it with pink 1/8" silk ribbon, but no way the ribbon wants to go through the layers!!! :-( Perhaps I'm using a wrong needle? Well, I won't give up! Other possibilities are pearl cotton or embroidery floss... I mean, if the silk ribbon doesn't want to cooperate!!!
