This New York Beauty was done and thread basted January 2023.
The blocks were finished March 2021, when did I start it? Let me dig some more...
Can't find anything.... most probably end 2020 or beginning 2021.
UFO #1 - UFO list 2025
Why did I put it aside, you may wonder? Because;
1) How to quilt it?
2) What tread color to use?
(The photos don't do justice to the colors. It's cloudy and raining cats and dogs here right now. Photos are taken inside in not so good light).
For the thread color, I'm thinking grey since grey seems to blend easily with other colors?
It will be quilted on my domestic sewing machine (no longarm or hand quilting for me).
Any suggestions? Please let me know.
HAPPY QUILTING!

First of all--this is such a gorgeous piece, Astrid!!
Gray sounds like a great choice for thread color; quilting around the central arcs and seams maybe?? Or an overall choice that would sink into the background? This is a tough one to figure for sure...so much going on ..
I sometimes also think of hand tying at corners when a pattern is busy...
This probably doesn't help a lot--just my thoughts...good luck hugs, Julierose
Oh my, New York Beauty has been on my bucket list forever!!!! Yes I think gray thread would be successful. Quilting not busy, so it doesn't distract from the piecing.
Gorgeous quilt , Astrid. Tula Pink says she uses light lime green for everything. I do find it blends nicely on colourful quilts. Good luck. Joanne
are you thinking of custom quilting each block or an overall pattern?
Your New York Beauty is stunning, Astrid. I agree that a light grey thread would blend in well for the quilting. As far a quilting, I always struggle with what designs to use, so I'm no use here. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I think my vote would go to a light grey too, but another thought might be to see if you could find a multi-coloured thread that has some of the colours in the fabrics. Whatever you decide, it's already beautiful and the quilting can't help but make it even better.
Wow - fantastic :-)
Blue-gray - I would love to see you quilt it on your home sewing machine. But I'm sure you have a table. I don't have one and so I can only quilt small things.
The top is super beautiful. I hope you have lots of fun and great success with your continued work on the quilt.
I look forward to seeing your progress.
Best wishes from Viola
Your New York Beauty sure is a Beauty. Wow! Cathy uses lime green when the quilt is very colourful and it never overpowers the blocks. Don't know why but it works. So, that's my humble suggestion. Good luck. ;^)
I would be tempted to try a blue thread. And I love the suggestion of the lime green.
