I thought I was done with yellow for this month's RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge).
Nope!
Those of you who have followed my blog for some time, know I'm cutting scraps into squares in sizes from 1.5" to 5".
I'm trying my best to use those squares, but it looks like some sizes are less used, like 3.5".
This box containing 3.5" squares were overflowing and it was hard getting the cover on.
Something had to be done!
I got the idea to make 9-patches in RSC colors! I started with yellow.
I got 3 blocks
2 blue blocks
5 pink blocks
I may change the bottom right square in the pink block #2. I can't decide which color it is. To me it looks like something between pink and orange.
Where on earth did I get all that pink from?! Not even among my favorite colors!
10 blocks x 9 squares = 90 squares left the box!
There are more of these squares/colors in the box, but I didn't want to make any duplicates and it doesn't harm to keep a few for further blocks.
It made a tiny, tiny dent! Now it's easier getting the cover on!
Place mats and hot pads from previous post done
I think they look spring-ish with the green binding.
I forgot to take photos of the back, which is all yellow too, all from my stash.
Do you have any creative plans for the weekend?
I've started quilting 'Dwellings'. I'm almost done with the second house. Custom quilting those houses take even more time than what it took to quilt the New York Beauty! My goodness! Hope I don't get bored with it!

Your yellow squares are so pretty all together, Astrid--are you planning on making these into a rainbow setting with all the others for RSC this year?
The hot pads and placemats are so cheery for Springtime. Nice works...
I am hand stitching my 3rd Dark Days woven block to hold the strips in place
on their backing....I like this type of easy quilting...easy to "needle" as no wadding in the center--just two layers...plus we will be watching Formula one's Chinese Grand Prix over this weekend while I stitch away...
DH's surgery went off really well yesterday and he is feeling much better today...laser surgery is amazing these days...
hugs, for a good weekend Julierose ;)))
What a productive week! Those 9-patch blocks are a great way to use those 3.5" squares. That is the bin of squares at my house that gets the least use too.
Good job downsizing your box. It gives such a feeling of satisfaction when you can get the lid on a container doesn't it.
I think I have come up with a plan for my 1.5" squares but not sure when I will start
Those 9 patches are perfect for using up your squares! Pretty yellow placemats and hotpads, too. Good luck with your quilting on Dwellings - it's a fun quilt!
Nine Patches are always a good idea! I like all of your hotpads and placemats - another great idea!
I like your hollow nine patches, cut squares always seem to go a long way. And using 3.5in squares makes a good sized block.
A great way to use those 3.5’ squares. I call them Hollow 9’s. Not my name, I stole it from somebody.i think it was Mari at The Academic Quilter.
The nine patch is one of my favorite blocks. Yours look so pretty, Astrid and a great way to use up those 3.5 inch squares. The fabric in your placemats is so lovely . Fabulous job.
