Who sent the squirrel?!
...and one can't work on UFOs all the time, right?
I've been admiring the '99 Charms quilts' in RSC colors at GraceandPieceQuilting. Nancy has done a fabulous job on those quilts, using 5 inch squares from scraps, and quilted beautifully!
I got inspired!
I have a shoe box full of 5" squares and wasn't sure how to use them. Not that it was a priority to use them, but after admiring Nancy's quilts, I decided to do the same. Thanks for the inspiration, Nancy!
There were squares in colors I have more of than other colors;
'99 charms' quilt in red and red & white
Blue and yellow
Brown, orange, green and some neutrals to fill in.
I'm out of orange, no yardage. The squares used in this quilt is what I had left from other projects. I have orange squares in sizes from 1.5 up to 4 inches, but no yardage.
(Dark and dreary today, the photos don't give justice to the colors)
It did make a dent in the box, but I think I still have enough for 2-3 quilts in the same size. They would be more scrappy in colors.
I loved making these quilts. They are fun and really fast to make. They are all flimsies and I'm not going to finish them now (unless I get bored with other projects). I think I have some flannel pieces I can use for backing.
I have a couple of flimsies and a finish to show, but that'll be for another post.

oh such a cute squirrel. Many UFO's we do put off working on it is always get to get some finishes too. I'm working on orange today too
I often make compassion quilts with squares, they look so nice and they're so easy to piece. Happy stitching!
A bunch of nice little quilts from those five inch squares, and nice to see a dent in the scrap/stash collection.
I love your 99 Charms quilts, Astrid! These each turned out so cute in their different color combinations. Such a good idea to use up the 5 inch squares that pile up!
I've admired those 99 charm squares quilts made by Nancy too. And now you have made three of them yourself, in various colours, they look great. I know I've got some charm squares packed away somewhere safe, wonder just where though?
Dear Astrit, you've made some beautiful tops, and the star quilt you're working on... I'm really looking forward to it.
I'd actually love to make stars myself sometime... maybe it will happen soon... the summer nights with their beautiful starry skies are coming, that would be a great motivation.
Warmest regards and happy Sunday!
I would say your squirrel caused you to be really busy creating! Using up some squares isn't a bad thing so I would say you still stayed on track with your plans.
I might have to try 99 Charms too! Thanks for showing all the different colors you've made it in.
I love to see that you're using up so much of your stash. I wish I could do the same! I'm going to look into those 99 Charms. They look too nice!!
That squirrel is adorable and made me laugh. Love the 99 Charms quilts, Astrid. What a great idea for using up some scraps and stash.
You've done a terrific job on the 99 Charms quilt. I'm thinking of trying a 64 charm quilt as the place I donate baby quilts to want about 36" square. Such an easy thing if I can find a bunch of charm squares. Your squirrel friend is darling.
The little squirrel led you into a wonderful direction. I love the beautiful charm quilts you are piecing.
Love the squirrel and your 99 charms quilts too! Doesn't it feel good to create from your stash?!
Yes, I have been inspired by several of the little quilts that Nancy makes.
These are great to use up lots of charm squares, especially leftovers.
You have put together some great combinations. They look great.
