True Blue - A Flimsy, Pieced Backing

'True Blue' is a flimsy!

I started working on this quilt in January this year, when the selected RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) color was blue. I was not supposed to start anything new, but...
1) I couldn't resist making a blue and white quilt
2) it's a relatively small quilt with only 20 big blocks

There are 3 different blocks, easy to make, before the corner units.
Bad me seldom read carefully through any pattern. I didn't realize it calls for 160 triangles! First I read it was 80, but that is sets of 2 triangles
OK! No problem! I had lots of 1.5" fabric strips. In addition to the already cut strips, I needed to cut more blue as well as white strips. A bit tedious to sew all those small strips together, but I finally got there!

It gets a pieced backing. I hope to get a better photo of the backing after it is quilted. I need batting for this one, so it'll have to wait.

I've been working on this one and the Basket quilt while waiting for ordered quilting thread. I have to rant: I ordered thread from an online shop in the US on February 14 to be shipped UPS Expedited. The company is not able to get the right custom papers to UPS! I had a look at the tracking again last night, and again (2nd time!) the package is returned to sender due to missing commercial invoice! I paid US$ 50 for expedited shipping, and after one month they have not managed to provide the right custom papers!  I just can't believe it?!?!!! It is so unprofessional! Usually expedited shipping takes about 2 weeks from the US. Due to the delay, I requested a shipping refund and got it. What happens next, I don't know. I suggested they use another courier, so let's wait and see what happens.

Of course you know I love that quilt because...wait for it...it's blue.
As for the USPS - I ordered several back issues of Quilting Arts in September and never received them. So I contacted Quilting Arts and they offered to replace them with two newer issues of my choice. One arrived and there's no sign of the other. I sent a handmade card to an online friend in November (sent it early in order to get there by Christmas) and she still hasn't received it. I know the US has 'issues' with Canada but didn't realize it extended to your country too. No doubt it's going to get nothing but worse.

This is another beauty, Astrid! I had a problem when I ordered yarn from Europe soon after the tariffs had started. It sat somewhere for a couple of months. I did not pay extra to have it shipped quickly. You should get your money back.

This quilt is so beautiful! Of course it is, it's blue!!! I had to really fight the temptation to jump into this sew-along but I'm still tempted. I hope your thread arrives soon, it's so frustrating when it's late! Happy stitching!

I love the blue and white quilt, Astrid. Those blocks look challenging. Glad you got a shipping refund, and I hope your thread arrives soon.

True Blue is absolutely gorgeous. I agree it is hard to resist a blue and white quilt. I am so sorry to hear about the troubles with the shipping of your threads. I do hope you receive them soon.

such a pretty blue/white quilt. I hope you get your money back on shipping. I recently cancelled a fabric order from a company that is only 300 miles from me. After 3 weeks I still hadn't received it and when I followed up I kept being told it would be there soon then finally they told me they had made a mistake and they no longer had the fabric to fill the order!! I did get my money back.

Gosh-- shipping is not only so expensive but also so unpredictable and
downright horrid. USPS is not reliable these days. Sorry you are having to go through this--especially since you are waiting for that pkg to finish up!!!
Hope it gets straightened out soon--the blue and white is just so gorgeous,
Astrid...i am going to start pinning my JRJ tomorrow,,, hugs, Julierose

I'm so sorry about the mess at the borders. Lately, I've been seeing things that make me think nobody cares about good customer services anymore. Can you get the same product from another company? I would look around for another one because if the company can' fill up the customs papers properly on the first try, they shouldn't advise about international shipping. My pet peeve.
On the other hand you have a gorgeous quilt. This one is a winner!! Bravo! ;^)

True Blue is looking wonderful. Love the blue/white combo!
And great work with the backing, too.
Yes, it is a big frustration when deliveries do no go as planned. And Now it will get even harder with the fuel crisis. Hope your order arrives !

I agree to your pet peeve. The order is re-shipped and I hope it goes through this time. It is still in the US, delays caused by the war in the Middle East.

It’s a very pretty blue and white quilt, Astrid! Sooo many triangles. That’s what we get when we don’t read the pattern first - more work and confusion, but still a pretty quilt.
What a headache with the shipping. I’m glad they gave you a refund at the least.

That's a BEAUTIFUL back for your True Blue. I am still putting those stinkin' pieces of strips on each corner... I'm dragging my feet on this one.
