WIP: Basket Quilt and Mini-Dwellings

We've had some nice cooler days, but the last couple of days the weather has been sultry! Wind from North (Equator), means hot! I had to do a couple of errands Wednesday morning, and I have to say I was glad when it was done and I was home again!
Today is Equinox (March 20). The beginning of the 'cold season' for us living on the Southern Hemisphere, although we won't feel any difference until beginning April. Can't wait for cooler days!

Since my previous post, there has been some progress on the Basket Quilt

All the small triangles were cut and pieced together with the 4-patches,  for the second border.

The corner blocks are done too

As I have mentioned earlier; what I have left of the basket weave fabrics as well as the first (gremlin) blocks I made (and didn't like that much), go into the pieced backing

There's no more I can do on this one until I get the ordered background fabric for the basket blocks.

A little progress on the Mini-Dwellings stitchery

The tree is done.
Trunk & branches are backstitches, leaves are lazy daisy stitches.
It has been years since I did lazy daisy stitches, it took me some stitches getting into it

Thread Update: The parcel has arrived and is at the Customs! I should get it by next week.

Even if I haven't worked with red fabrics, at least there are a few red squares in the blocks for the Basket Quilt that should count.

I think that embroidery will look great with the house block you showed earlier. Your basket project is growing too so I know you've been busy.

Glad you're making progress on the basket quilt, Astrid! Those four patches are going to make a pretty border. Hope your order comes soon!

It's the first time I'm visiting your blog, and I'm impressed with 'a Norwegian woman who settled in the tropical island of Mauritius' and then got the quilting bug. I've linked in from RSC, and look forward to visiting again.

Great to see that you can keep busy and make progress regardless of waiting for deliveries. The stitchery is looking good.

I love the little 4-patches on point for the border, Astrid. Your embroidery is so cute. I think you did a nice job on the lazy daisy stitches.

Hi Astrid,
I looked on a map to see where you live, and now I understand about waiting for quilting fabric and thread to be mailed to you. You live far away from me, and I am so happy you joined my blog Linky party. The internet is a friendly place. I like your embroidery project. The weeping willow tree with the hearts hanging on it is so peaceful.

Yes, that's exactly right, dear Astrid, we're looking forward to warmer days. We had a few snowflakes today, but many spring flowers are already in bloom.
Your blocks look beautiful. I've also just ordered some new fabric because I'm lacking colors... so I simply sewed a few small items...
Warm regards from Viola. Best of luck with your projects!

Remember the days when we did not have parcel tracking and they would just arrive…it always felt like Christmas when a parcel arrived! Hope your parcel arrives soon. What a wonderful scrappy quilt you are making! Lovely embroidery too. I always have to work out how to do embroidery stitches when I have not done them for a while. Thank goodness for YouTube!
